Ramgad Fort


Basically Ramgad Fort of Sindhudurg District in not known to tourist. This fort is situated in Kankavli City road towards to National Highway of Achra Bandar from Kankavli City. Ramgad is small village in Kankavli city. 


History of Ramgad Fort


Ganga River originates near Rangne Gada, cutting distance 80 kmsthrough the lanes of the ocean, built Ramgad Fort for the maintenance of Jalvistoki. This fort was built on a mountain derived from the main line of Sahyadri even today the entrance of the fort walls and bastions are under guard.

Ramgad Fort was built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The history of the Ramgad fort is not known. In the 18th Century, there was a war between Peshwa and Tulji Angre. Tuljin had won the Ramgad. When Khandaji Mankar, Peshwa's leader Krishnaji Mahadev and Sawantwadi Karak gathered together and won the Ramgad Fort in February 1796.

The British won the Ramgad Fort on 6th April 1818 under Captain Pearson's leadership at that time there are 21 guns and 106 trons.


How to go there :

Reach at Kankavli City If you have own vehicle then go towards Achra Bandar Road. If you want go through Transport then catch Bus from Kankavli City Bus Stand for Achra Bandar or you can go through Auto Rickshaws from Kankavli City. It upto 19 km from Kankavli City.
