Devgad Fort


Devgad is famous for Alphonso Mango from Sindhudurg District. Devgad is also known as a safe harbor since ancient times. Devgad Fort is located on the Arabian Sea in the coastal Kokan region of Sindhudurg District.

History of Devgad Fort


Devgad Fort spreading approximately 120 acres area on Arabian Sea. It was built by Dattajirao Angre in 1729. This fort taken by a British force under Colonel Imlack in April 1818.

Due to the hills on the 3 sides of Devgad Harbor there is a similar shape in the gutters, hence the high waves do not form rain during this monsoon. For this same reason, during the time of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and today the boats in Malvan, Vengurla and surrounding seafront are plowed in Devgad Harbor.
