Nanuz Fort


Nanuz for is located in Valpoi, Satari Taluka of North Goa. Nanuz Fort is also known as Nanus Fort of Historical place of Goa. Nanuz Fort constructed on basis of Indo- Portuguese architectural style combination of India, Portuguese and Mughal architecture.


History of Nanuz Fort


Nanuz Fort was built by Maratha ruler Shivaji in 17th Century. Once Dipaji Rane captured the fort, he used it as a military base during the time of early revolts in Goa. From the fort Dipaji Rane and his men used to conduct raids in Bardez and Tiswadi and then retreat to Satari.

Nanuz Fort has changed the ownership multiple time throughout its existence as a defense point. The fort was designed for military purposes. After its creation by Shivaji, Nanuz Fort was conquered by Portuguese ruler, Dipaji Rane. He Tranformed the fort into a military base.

Later during the regin of the Ranes also the Nanuz fort was again captured by soldiers from Quepem, along with those from Panji barracks. Today however one can only see the ruins of the fort.

How to go there:

It's 48 Km from Panji City. You can go there own you vehicle or Goa Taxi.
